Zion United Church of Christ Stands in Solidarity with the Sikh Community

05 Aug

There is one supreme eternal reality; the truth; immanent in all things; creator of all things; imminent in creation. Without fear and without hatred.
The opening hymn of the holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib

This morning as my congregation at Zion UCC worshipped in peace, another place of worship was horrifically violated. An armed man entered the Sikh temple of Oak Creek, Wisconsin firing upon those gathered in worship. He killed six, injured three, and then was gunned down by police.

Words cannot express the horror and injustice of this tragic event. The congregation at Zion UCC joins all Sikhs in mourning. We will pray and we will grieve. It’s all we have to give.

These random acts of violence that bring such horrific loss to so many seem even more so when they happen in places of worship, education, and even places of entertainment where the young are likely to gather.
